Hi guys,
I sent the message (below) out to the Facebook group this morning, it looks like we have a few new faces on the forum already - welcome to anyone who has just joined!
================
Tasmania United FC - Bid update and a Call to Arms!
I try not to send out group messages too often, so I've packed a fair bit of news into this mailout!
First, a bid update - the Tasmania United FC taskforce, along with the Tasmanian Government, released the feasibility study document into a Tasmanian A-League team last week. The document is available at - http://www.development.tas.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0009/12042/Elite_Feasibility_Study.pdf
If you don't have time to read through the 70+ pages of the document, some of the key points are:
* The club will play, in a 13-home game season, seven games at York Park (Aurora Stadium) and six games at Bellerive Oval * The club will expect an average crowd of 12,355 in its first year (using conservative estimates) * The club will generate approximately $16m per year of economic benefits to the state * The club will operate a National Youth League team from its first year in order to provide a development pathway for local players * The club will operate at a slight loss over five years and will be sustainable in the long term
It looks like a 2nd Melbourne and 2nd Sydney have secured the 11th and 12th spots, but Tasmania United is in with a very good chance to secure one of the 13th or 14th spots!
SO HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT TASMANIA UNITED'S BID?
SUPPORT IT ONLINE - register at the official club website, http://www.tasmaniaunited.com.au/ . The bid taskforce will be using the numbers on this site to show community support for the bid so every voice counts! It's free, quick and easy and I urge anybody who would like to see a Tasmanian club in the A-League to sign up and get their friends and family too as well. You don't need to do anything else, your details are secure and you will never get spammed so, please, just sign up!
SUPPORT IT ON THE RADIO - Rick Fontyn on ABC 7NT Radio will be covering the bid and upcoming A-League pre-season match this Friday (19th) - listen to us (in the north of the state, and you can pick it up in the south at times!) just after 4.30pm on 91.7 FM and call in when the talkback lines open to show your support!
SUPPORT IT FINANCIALLY - Tasmania United is selling Foundation Memberships to corporate and business entities in order to raise money to fund their business case. I asked the taskforce if individuals could assist in anyway and they suggested that a Foundation Membership from a group of supporters would be welcomed! We are looking for 100 people to pledge $100 each in order to buy a Foundation Membership for the supporters group. If successful, each person will be rewarded with a spot in a corporate box for at least one of the inaugural season matches. You can make your pledge here - https://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dFIzUVktTlZ4cW5PZkMwbC05cjZTMEE6MA.. - note that no cash will be requested until it is confirmed there is enough interest and the business case is going ahead!
SUPPORT IT ON THE PARK - at the A-League pre-season match at York Park next Sunday 26th July - come along, and more importantly become a part of Tasmania United's supporters group. We plan to have a dedicated section of the stands for us to gather. We are looking for people to assist in any of the following ways: 1) Help make a banner or flag for us to wave 2) Chant/song leader (would suit a loud/outgoing personality!) 3) Wave flags/placards (when the TV camera swings to us!) - We need at least 15 people to hold up placards with the letters "S U P P O R T _ T H E _ B I D" which TUFC will be providing us. 4) Wear green/orange/yellow (no-one knows what the final club colours will be, but these ones match the website and don't clash with Melbourne Victory (blue) or Adelaide United (red).) 5) (This one still in planning) Meet at a local pub near the stadium before the game for an hour, and have a Q&A session with the taskforce on ABC 7NT Radio
Remember the supporters make the supporters area, the more people there are, the easier and more fun it is for everyone! If you want to be involved, say so on the Facebook event page here - http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=101798671356 , write on the group wall, or message me directly!
If you made it this far, thanks for reading, and doing forget to invite you friends, colleagues and teammates, both to this group and to the official website at http://www.tasmaniaunited.com.au !
