Would it be possible for the Bid team to use its contacts to get the Tas Govt to try to get the Round 13 Central Coast game which is still looking for a venue to Tasmania. 7 pm on a Saturday night should attract a good crowd either at York Park or Bellerive. Add comments |

galacticaposted at 10:57AM on 6th May, 2009 Certainly any match is better than none though. I just hope that the TUFC bid team are hitting hard into the A League bosses about not saturating the Sydney market because there are a number of NRL teams not exactly setting the world on fire, basketball keeps missing the hoop and the Sydney market just hasnt proved its worthy of another metro soccer team just yet from the greater Syd area. I hope Ben Buckley and the powers that be do not get side tracked by the AFL bid into western Sydney because that will not bear fruit for at least a decade of massive promotional costs. If the A League bring in fresh blood from say Tassie it will create a new impetus to the comp just like the CCM have done. This is the stability and economics that is needed, not this perpetual razzamatazz that comes out of the Sydnyites mouths with little substance. I forsee Tassie as being a hard nut, hard working community side, possibly like a Millwall that gives no quarter and asks for none and is always having a go on and off the field. galacticaposted at 9:57AM on 2nd Jul, 2009 Perhaps we should consider an appropriate nickname for the team to be THE FLOUNDERS because that is what seems to be happening with the bid at the moment. Also it is just the type of name to attract government money to prop it up as they only put money into something that flounders. Be nice if the bid bid team did a little talking out loud though - maybe they have just given up and hope the whole thing simply dies away now? Just thought of another name - EUTHANASIA! galacticaposted at 10:05AM on 6th May, 2009 Frankly I have to say that watching other teams is a poor substitute and I would rather we push all out for a Tassie youth team to play regularly at both YP and NHO. Thereby creating the nucleus for a TUFC. Reading between the lines in the Mercury about the AFL stoush with the NRL it appears that we dont rate a mention as a credible inclusion into the A League by the parochials around Sydney. This is despite the fact that they spend a fortune on their existing team with only the initial success and now keep shooting themselves in the foot like all Sydney centred soccer teams do. Chuqposted at 2:01AM on 7th May, 2009 I definitely think our own team (even youth team for now) would be preferable, but there is no reason we couldn't have an actual league match here as well between visiting teams. As much as I like going to the Melbourne V Adelaide at York Park matches... it is getting pretty routine. Foxhawkposted at 5:43AM on 7th May, 2009 I think getting a youth side is top priority. In fact a NYL side may get a big following which could be used to support our bid. However it would probably not be under the TUFC logo as the A-League would see this as giving us 'hope' where it is not a guarantee of a future licence. However we could always impress upon them entering TUFC into the Youth League as a Youth side on a probational basis with certain goals set that if achieved would give us 'preference' for future licences. (Thats if we miss out on the next few spots). galacticaposted at 10:18AM on 3rd Jul, 2009 Not having managed to get a "bite" means I will have to suppose the home page entry from TUFC will have to do. Frustratingly slow developments though - a bit like watching snails race towards a can of beer. Chuqposted at 1:02PM on 9th Jul, 2009 Out of interest, the Sep 4 and Oct 31 Central Coast home games have both gone to Canberra. http://au.fourfourtwo.com/news/107307,canberra-gets-aleague-football.aspx

If we could get any match down here it would be good.
