DISCUSSIONS > Adelaide v Victory show of strength
ntguy Date posted Replies

Is there any way the bid team can really push the Tassie bid with publicity etc to promote the game between Adelaide and Victory at York Park on July 26 as a show of strength of the support for A-League football in Tasmania and especially the Tasmania United bid.

It would be great if there was a sea of red and yellow and green flags and banners in the main stand so we can get pics to publicise our bid on the various forums that many of us frequent.

Perhaps we could use the day to officially launch the Tasmania United Supporters Club and have people signing up on the spot.

I agree. These are the sort of events that TUFC need to take advantage of.

I do wonder though if the two clubs involved in this match would have some exclusivity clause preventing the promotion of other clubs at the event? I would be interested to hear what dmin's take is on this.

I'll be looking to the NTJSA to get behind the game and get as many kids and families involved. The more the kids see of the senior league, the more involved they will become.

I think that the qualification of the Socceroos for the World Cup next year will have a dramatic effect on the popularity of football in the state.  Hopefully we will have a co-ordinated plan to lock TUFC and the World Cup together.  Maybe TUFC fansites in both ends of the state to watch the games together would help our cause.

Hi guys,

What do people think of a dedicated area set aside for TUFC supporters at York Park for this match, if it was available?  Along with a banner or something similar?  Do you think the visibility of the group would be enough to make it worthwhile?

I think it would be a great idea.  There would be 4 or 6 of my family there.

I'll be there. I've never been to York Park - is there a suitable section where we could all congregate?

Great ideas. On the Friday prior to the game, I can devote about 10 minutes on ABC radio if anyone would like to join in as a spokesperson to further promote the cause? I host a 30 minute local sports show on ABC Northern Tasmania (sorry, it doesn't go to Hobart) but it's at 4:30pm on a Friday and the listening audience is large at that time of the week. The show is purely to promote local sports people & events. Let me know if you think this could be worthwhile.

ajax, sounds fantastic!  I'm sure if FFT or TUFC doesn't take you up on the offer, a couple of us will be able to :)

Had Martyn on a few months ago when the Sheikh was all the rage, so will approach him again, but I will advise and open it to supporters to call in perhaps also. Last year we had Aurelio Vidmar on pre-game and he was very complimentary on Tassie as a football destination and supporter base as crowds have been strong in the past. If we can get more A-League coaches, administrators, etc to promote us, it can only be goodd.

As far as a suitable section is for seating, in the past the Melbourne Victory supporters have congregated on the Eastern Terrace. Probably a good spot to be on that side of the ground, as  generally the television cameras are in the Gunns Stand which is directly on the opposite side of the ground. I'd suggest around the middle of the terrace and hopefully (with plenty of noise & colour) the cameras will focus on the group regularly.

Sorry, but I won't be sitting on the eastern side because it is too far away from the play with the pitch moved over to the Gunn's Stand side.

I do agree totally, however, the reason for that suggestion (on this occasion) is to try and gain the best exposure for the betterment of showing our combined passion for having not only football played here, but that we are passionate about having our own "home team".

Is this match even going to be televised? It's only a pre-season trial...

No live tele cast, but WIN, Southern + and local ABC should carry a news story. With a group presence we should get some air time, plus maybe Examiner and Mercury. It all helps - go for it !
