If we were starting this year then I would say Jody Craddock.

Would be solid as at this level. He would make a great club Captain and would control the defence. Defenders say that they always know where to be when he is on the field. Great header of the ball.

At this level he would be a great player to have in the squad. Doubt he would come though. In fact I doubt that Glory will get him. He is an artist in England and runs a gallery when not playing. His art keeps him busy when he is not involved with his current club. Could not see him moving.

Jody Craddock is worth 'Googling'. If his football skills match his artistic ones then we should try for him. Perhaps the first Tasmanian sportsperson to win the Glover art award ? !

My nomination; Danny Invincible.

Our "marquee" player should be, where possible a Socceroo who wants to finish his career in the A League first and foremost. Hopefully they will play for a longer period and will want to give something back to football in Oz, more so than an overseas player who is only after the money and our great lifestyle.

As TUFC wont be playing a game before 2011 at the earliest, many of the "Roo's" who play at the 2010 WC will be looking to return home to finish their careers, so I would prefer one of them first. Every team needs a great "Keeper", Mark Schwarzer, Zelco Kalic or even Mark Bosnich would be great. If a midfielder was needed, could not look past a Vinnie Grella or a centre forward like Mark Viduka. If we are to go with an overseas player, who is coming to the end of his career, Emily Hesky, Micheal Owen, Robbie Keane all of whom will be well over 30 by 2011 could be the answer.

It would be great TC_CVale if one of the Socceroos wanted to invest in expanding the league into Tasmania for the benefit of the game here.

I was thinking the other day Ronaldo (Brazilian kind not Christian) is past his prime, but would do well in the A-League.  He would also bring a lot of publicity, former world player of the year.  He is only playing in Brazil these days so can't be on too much cash.

I think a marquee goal keeper would be a huge mistake.  The marquee needs to entertain the crowd and also have significant influence on the match which a keeper rarely does (even if it was Schwatzer etc.).

Robbie Keane would be great, only I think he will finish his career in the UK. He once stated that he wanted to finish it by returning to WOlves. Can't see that happening if they go up and stay up like Wigan have done. Would be a class act though.

Yep being a spurs fan I reckon (tongue in cheek) even Linecker, Allen, Peters, Chivers, Gilzean and Greaves might be good to prop up one end of the bar. My real bet though is that we go and arrange scholarship connections in South America and Africa to bring over contracted young fellas. Cheap at half the price whilst we integrate our youngsters through the system. There will always be a discarded bloke from two world cups back who has something to offer on a one-two year deal that allows him to visit Australia; and these fellas have skills still oozing from them so long as they pass the injury fitness tests. Be pretty hard to put one over old Kenny Morton though if he is the Boss Man.

Marion Pahars, the ex-Southampton striker would be great. Very underrated player, currently playing with Skonto FC in Europe. He's 32 so he'd probably go alright and would bring a wealth of experience to the club. Maybe hard to see him moving though but you never know.

Time Tasmania gets a side, perhaps Julio Arca would be a good fit at Middlesbrough now but at 1 stage was Sunderlands only good player for 4-5 years or Steed Malbranque was very good at Fulham.

Given that Australia is a good destination for people in their forties wanting to move their families from England to a warmer climate and go from small expensive buildings to large homes in the country or on the waterfront.

It is probably likely that retiring footballers would consider the same thing, only at a younger age due to their money. (Though obviously they would not be living in tiny places in England).

Given this - it is possible that wage may not be a big issue for a lot of these players in their final year or two on the pitch. Plus they could push the clock on a few more seasons without dropping way down four or so divisions.

So you could probably go for an experienced marque player and see if a premiership or championship side would be willing to loan a player or two from their youth side.

Good thoughts. Maybe we could get a whole side to come out. I suggest Millwall cos I can just image a whole team of Kevin Muscats creating havoc on and off the pitch. Only being flippant. For me I believe there are thousands of potential imports including those who want to find a way out of the slums of India, Africa and South America. All of them have to be considered for a place in the Kenny Morton School of Finesse and Development.

It would be very exciting to see a Tasmanian reach the finals, but there is so much competition it will be very difficult. Either way, he sounds a great prospect and is definitely somebody that would be perfect for the TUFC youth side. I would hope a well structured youth program would help us to uncover many more like him, just more evidence of why TUFC is needed so much.

We should be looking for 2 experienced well known players. A forward and a central defender. A former socceroo as the forward and a veteren a-league defender. We should look to young players in places like africa and lower asia. Goalkeeper should have had previous a-league experience. I dont believe that we would be able to entice players like robbie keane or michael owen just yet. If we want a aging player from England go for one in the championship who isnt completely past it.

Actually they are not that bad options to mention. Dont forget we are talking probably three years down the track and then the club would probably not sign them in its first season as an international marque player until it had already dipped its toes in the league for a season. By then these players will have probably played a few more season in the premiership, possibly one in the Championship.

Lots of big name players have stated that they want to spend at least a year in Australia before they retire. Even Christiano (Big Girl) Ronaldo has stated that he would love to spend a year playing in Australia in his senior years.

Just the same I think the conservative approach is important. We must remember that in terms of talent the A-league canvasses the full spectrum of players from English Div 1 down to young players who in England would still be trying to break into the conference. I guess in many respects our clubs are a bit like clubs in some of the smaller European leagues.

The only reason players like fowler and yorke come here is the climate and the new experience. We are not yet as good as the smaller leagues in europe. The a-league is the standard of the conference or even below in england. If we had a dull climate like central western europe then no players like fowler etc would come. We need to make the most of this and I think that players would love to play in Tasmania
