I notice the newest poll on the site is about the club colours!

Thought I would start a discussion on this one.  The poll is about the *predominant* colour, which makes me think that Claret/Blue is kind of an odd option!

Benefits of each:
Green - Obvious choice - main state colour
Red - Is also a state colour
Blue - None really - seems an odd choice.
Yellow - Is a state colour but not a major one.
Maroon - Is not the major colour of any other club unless you count Qld Roar where it is a shared major colour with orange.
Claret/Blue - I'm sensing a Barcelona style strip?  A similar strip, except Claret/Green (or would that be Maroon/Green?) would look great. (See pic below)

The cons are mainly "they are already taken".
Green - Nth Queensland, Canberra (W-League)
Red - Adelaide (and strongly identified as "Reds")
Blue - Both Melb (navy) and Sydney (light)
Yellow - Both Central Coast and Gold Coast

There are going to be overlaps but I had hoped the omission of green from any of the first eight clubs was a sign it was being "reserved" for us, sadly it wasn't to be!

Electro on The World Game Forum drew up the following strip.  (ignore the empty "away" bit, he did the same for many other clubs but no away strip for Tas).  I was going to wait until the kit comp and then suggest he enter it, but no sign of the competition so I'll just publish it now:

The colours are all potentially symbolic of various aspects of Tasmania:

Green - natural habitat, state colour

Red - state colour

Blue - marine environment

Yellow/Gold - state colour, beer brewing

Maroon - winemaking

Claret/Blue - marine/wine

I don't mind that strip but my preference would be more green, with yellow and red as secondary colours.  I also like blue highlights to give it a bit of class.

Jut been watching the start of the Jets ACL game.  I am for any colours you like so long as we don't have a single red sleeve.  It looks atrocious.

I think darker colours are more imposing. How about a bottle green and black strip. We can break them up with a splash of red or gold.

I'll go for that as well.

Dark colours would look good. As for people mentioning blue above, well Tasmania is surrounded by water so it does fit to a degree if they have a blue green combo that works. (Would have to be a good pattern as the two colours don't normally work well together).

The Jets new strip on show last night had black shorts and socks.  It didn't look good on TV.  The players calves looked very heavy and there was no edge to their legs and their backsides had the same problem.  I am wondering whether it is an issue with the cameras picking up black.

One can  imagine the Jets players saying to each other " Does my bum look big in this new kit ? " The mind boggles !

Its Green and Yellow hoops for me with yellow shorts and red socks.  I could be wrong but I think you'll find the Blue and claret has been put up as an option as it is the colours of John MCGirr's beloved Nelson United

I can assure you claret and blue were put up entirely independently of any alleged allegiancies of John McGirr, the extent to which this admin is wholely unaware, or any other taskforce member for that matter.

I sort of like the idea of incorporating silver/grey into the away kit. I have seen it in other kits and it doesn't look that bad when combined with colours.

I like the Lions as a name, although I am also partial to TUFC Wolves. (With the international community knowing the Tasmanian Tiger as the Tasmanian Wolf). If that was chosen then I think an orange/brown colour similar to Tas Tiger furr with a dark colour for stripes.

I will get onto my PC this weekend and see if I can develop some kit ideas. Anyone know a good software program to kit designs with??
