DISCUSSIONS > Let’s be supporters instead of spectators!

Guys for the pre-season game coming up on the 25 of July, between Melbourne Victory and Central Coast Mariners, let’s be supporters instead of spectators. If we can get enough people to stand behind the goals with us and support the Tasmanian United bid, we could really make a difference.

We really have to get the word out about the bid and we can do this by supporting it at this game! There is only one game down here every year so let’s make it one to never forget!

We can have a march to the stadium before the game and once we get there we can make sure there is a real buzz around the stadium. We need to make up chants about wanting a team and sing our hearts out for it! If the atmosphere is good inside the stadium then more people will come back next year and the more people there, the more likely it is that we will get a team, attendances are really important for a football team. So who would come on a march and be an active supporter inside the stadium?

Absolutely agree, and given the World Cup will only just be over, "World Game fever" will still be big news, and I think the biggest crowd to ever go to a pre-season A-League game will attend. We need to see FFT promote this widely with the local media as well.

Yeah good point, I’m really hoping for a big crowd. I hope we can get a big passionate crowd as well, it makes all the difference!

Great idea!  Last year we gathered at the Gunners Arms, met the TUFC guys, the plan was to have a 'march' but in the end we went in dribs and drabs to the venue.. but if we get ourselves organised we should be able to do it this year!

Great news about Central Coast coming... it means I can just drive down the road to boo Arnold :).

Glad it is a change from Victory v Adelaide.

I got a response from Heart that said they would look at coming here next year.

Yeah we have over a month and a half to plan so it means we should be organized this year. The idea of a march to the stadium is great and I really think we should do this. We need to think of a meeting place and then make sure everyone knows about and then make sure we all leave together. Bring some flares along as well and turn it into a real football match!!! Does anyone have any chants??

I know the Gunners Arms are a great supporter of football locally and that would be a good meeting point, but how about rather than take a direct route to the ground, we go on a bit of a detour, because we want maximum exposure. It would be good to walk through the cbd and then onto Aurora Stadium; should still only take about 20 minutes.

Yeah that is a great idea, the more exposure the better. The Gunners and Arms sounds like a pretty good meeting point so far. How many people will meet there with us and come on the march?? We need to make sure we get as many people as possible to come with us. So make sure we tell lots of people and bring the topic up a lot during these forums! We just need to think up some chants now! It’s no good just walking through the streets and not making a noise!!

Are there many facebook users here?  I find it a great tool for organising groups like this.  Unfortunately the Tas United bid team don't have a way of directly messaging the 500 odd members of this site... last I heard the web developers wanted more $ for this function.  Unfortunate :(

I'm the admin of the facebook group "Tasmania in the A-League" with 1700 people.  it's a mostly idle group to which I occasionally post news updates.  I'm thinking of publishing a page/group called "Tasmania United active supporters group" (in fact I have already created it but haven't made it public yet!) which would be a lot smaller, maybe say 20-50 people, but the people who join up would be actually involved in active support for the club ... such as those who actually use this forum!  As such there would be more frequent traffic.

That is unless people are really not keen on facebook?  We can just use a mailing list or similar?

I’m not with Facebook, but I could soon sign up. Yeah I have noticed that this website is barley updated. I really think you should put the active supporters group up, especially with the game coming up soon. With the Facebook page we could then make sure that everyone knows about what is happening before that game etc... We really need to be organized this year and do something big!
