Tazztellposted at 3:20AM on 5th Dec, 2008 Craig Foster is on too good a bludge at SBS television to want to risk his know-it-all reputation by doing any proper coaching. He is also too much of an "armchair general" to be effective. What a Tasmanian A-League team needs is someone in the Gordon Strachen mould i.e. someone who can dish out the orders plus motivate and inspire,as well as praise and punish players with equal measure.Rest assured that the world of football-like the acting profession-is an area oversubscribed with managers looking for another gig.Whether the right manager is chosen remains to be seen.mlinacreposted at 3:27AM on 5th Dec, 2008 Craig Foster couldn't coach the Huonville u13s. He contradicts himself regularly in the same sentence. We should aim high for a coach with International experience, possibly in asia. If we did look locally there are a few assistant coaches around of merrit, Steve Corica, Alex Tobin to name a few.Grubbposted at 4:24AM on 5th Dec, 2008 Just to be fair to Fozzie (not that I'm a particular fan of his), he's also not put his hand up to coach anyone or anything. He has put his hand up to continually urge administrators and fans alike to make the beautiful game beautiful here in Australia. He might contradict himself, and he might be an 'armchair general', but he also hasn't pretended to be a top-level coach. He is just using his particular platform (SBS) to encourage the growth of the game. Even if I don't always agree with him or his methods (especially the detestable on-air mugging of one of our former national junior coaches) I do respect the man, or at least his intent. I don't want Craig Foster to coach TUFC, but I do want what Fozzie would want - a good coach promoting good football.rac_flemingposted at 4:46PM on 31st Mar, 2009 I think we should go for Eric Cantona - big high profile international name, with just the right ammount of drama and flair to kick the club off in style... Rutposted at 12:45AM on 1st Apr, 2009 Foz as coach - it is April fools day afterall. Foxhawkposted at 1:29AM on 1st Apr, 2009 Combination marque player and coach perhaps. I like what Glory are doing in trying to bring Kevin Phillips and Jody Craddock in. I doubt that they could afford both in the salary cap, however if they did then they would be solid in defence and tough up front. Mark my words there are solid players in the second and third tiers in England who would fit in well in TUFC. In its infancy some of the A-League sides would be given a run for their money by the top Blue Square sides. And Melbourne Victory would struggle in the Championship and League 1. Funny if we got Paul Ince. Can just imagine him, Kosmina and Musky in a brawl. |

nice idea, but tbh i think he would be a bit too negative - both in attitude and style. i'm totally reading between the comments i see him make in articles, the world game etc, but he just seems very very negative and nothing's good enough. here's a thought: see if can entice tony popovic down south - i love poppa, even though he's a sydneyite. if he can be offered a head coach deal, might entice him away from them (and leave me free to loathe sydney for the scum they are lol...) but here's the method to my madness: TUFC needs to grab a semi-experienced coach, possibly an assistant, like the fury have done with ian ferguson. perhaps steve mautone from melbourne victory, he's liked well at melbourne...» Reply to this comment
