Following on from the "Tassie tour 2009-10" which never eventuated... Should we give this another go? Concept: A travelling group of Tas United fans travel in a group interstate, to take in as many A-League matches as possible. Bring banners, make noise, get on TV. What do we need? Ideally 10 or more people to make it worthwhile. When do we do it? Well that is the question.. this depends on how the fixture list is arranged. I've scoped out some possibilities for this season:
Option 1: (note: not the best option, but I am possibly going to be in Qld already for work during Aug 24-27) Sat 21 August - Bris v Syd @ Lang Park
Fri 27 August - Bris v Well @ Lang Park Sun 29 August - GC v Melb V @ Robina
Option 2: (note: this weekend doesn't suit me but pointing it out anyway!) Fri 3 Sep - CC v Melb V @ CC Sat 4 Sep - Syd v Adel @ SFS Sun 5 Sep - Newc v Bris @ Newcastle
Option 3: Wed 27 Oct - Newc v NQ @ Newcastle Sat 30 Oct - CC v Perth and Syd v Bris double header @ SFS Sun 31 Oct - Newc v Melb H @ Newcastle
Option 4: Sun 14 Nov - Melb H v Bris @ MRS Thu 18 Nov - Melb V v CC @ MRS Fri 19 Nov - Melb H v Adel @ MRS
Option 5: Probably not all, but some portion of the following string of dates! Sat 13 Nov - Newc v Adel @ Newcastle Wed 17 Nov - Newc v Bris @ Newcastle Sat 20 Nov - Newc v Well @ Newcastle Sun 21 Nov - Syd v Perth @ SFS - OR - CC v GC @ Central Coast Wed 24 Nov - CC v Bris @ Central Coast Sat 27 Nov - Newc v CC @ Newcastle Wed 1 Dec - Syd v Well @ SFS Sat 4 Dec - CC v Syd @ Central Coast
Option 6: Fri 3 Dec - Melb V v Bris @ MRS Wed 8 Dec - Melb H v Newc @ MRS Sat 11 Dec - Melb H v Melb V @ MRS
Option 7: Sun 5 Dec - GC v Melb H @ Robina Wed 8 Dec - Bris v Perth @ Lang Park Sat 11 Dec - GC v Well @ Robina
Skipping Christmas/New Year since people often have other commitments...
Option 8: Sat 8 Jan - Syd v GC @ SFS Sun 9 Jan - CC v Well @ Central Coast Wed 12 Jan - CC v Bris @ Central Coast Sat 15 Jan - Syd v Melb @ SFS Sun 16 Jan - Newc v CC @ Newcastle
Option 9: Sun 30 Jan - Melb V v GC @ MRS Wed 2 Feb - Melb V v Newc @ MRS Fri 4 Feb - Melb H v CC @ MRS
Option 10: Sun 6 Feb - Newc v Syd @ Newcastle Wed 9 Feb - Syd v Well @ SFS Thu 10 Feb - Newc v Perth @ Newcastle Sun 13 Feb - CC v Newc @ Gosford
So what do we think - about the general concept, and those dates? Add comments |

Jahills8posted at 1:57PM on 28th May, 2010 Pre-season has been scrapped due to the longer season required are more clubs are now involved mvfc4lifeposted at 6:47AM on 29th May, 2010 So Melbourne Victory won't be playing down here in Tassie this season ?? ! That sucks because I was looking forward to this match Chuqposted at 2:25AM on 1st Jun, 2010 Well, that's half true. The pre-season cup competition has been scrapped - but it was last year as well. The Melbourne-Adelaide match last year was just a friendly, it wasn't part of any official competition. They continued to play in Launceston, because they (FFA, MV and AU) recognise it's pretty much the biggest football event we get each year and it helps to build their profile. So while technically the "pre-season cup" is scrapped, it is still likely there will be a match here.
mvfc4lifeposted at 6:50AM on 1st Jun, 2010 Awesome, thanks for that mate. I'm really hoping for a game down here this year. I think we should get another game down here once the actual season starts, like what Central Coast MArniers did last season, they played a game in the ACT. So has anyone got any info about a game down here soon?? Also I think it is a great idea about traveling to a few games this season, I would be happy to join !! Chuqposted at 1:58PM on 4th Jun, 2010 So any more comments on this idea? Just for a rough idea of cost using Melbourne as an example: Flights - $70-75 each way, prices vary. Accom - this is usually the expensive bit .. when I was last in Melbourne I saw a place called Urban Central, they are a backpackers in South Melbourne ... I popped in there to use their internet cafe and they actually looked really good! Taking a look at their website accom is $22 per night, per person, for a room which holds 4. $35 per night per person for a room with an ensuite. It depends if people are happy sharing a room with people they don't know, but perhaps worth chatting about at the Launnie pre-season game? There are more expensive rooms available. Alternatively, get 3 of your mates to come along and then you will all know each other :) Airport transport - Skybus ticket return Airport-Southern Cross Station (which is under 1km from Urban Central) - $26. Note - if staying 4 or more nights Urban Central reimburses the one-way cost of your transfer!) Stadium transport - if Docklands, can walk (under 1km each way). If Swan St, can also walk, its 2.5km each way, not too far for some people? If not its only $6 for a full day pass for trams/trains.

Pt 2 Meals - Urban Central has free breakfast :) There is a 24hr Macca's across the road if you are putting budget before health :) and numerous other nearby options (Coles 600m away, pizza, sushi, thai about 300m away, Southbank with food court 1km away) Match tickets - No idea. Can't find any details online at the moment - say $20/match? This would put the cost for attending, say, the Melbourne Nov 18 and Nov 19 matches at: $150 + $70 + $26 + $40 = $286 - assuming an ensuite room, walking to the venues, plus meals (2 dinners and a lunch). Plus beer :) For each extra day, add $35 + food, for each extra match add $20. There wasn't a huge response to my last post, is there anything in particular putting people off? Cost? Timing? Family commitments? mvfc4lifeposted at 5:59AM on 10th Jun, 2010 I think this is a great idea and we should really try and organize something. Most of the games in Melbourne I could easily attend but for some of the other ones I might not be able to. I think that staying in a backpackers is the best/cheapest way to go and there are plenty of choices around Melbourne. We could even fly with Tiger and get $28/$38 tickets, I have flown with them a few times and it isn’t first class but does it really matter for an hour flight? I really think we should try and make this work and all our active supporters should attend, would we have many people attending? HandzCDFCAUFCposted at 2:29AM on 29th Jun, 2010 Get up to Adelaide and get your colours out there and all would be tops, mvfc4lifeposted at 7:01AM on 2nd Jul, 2010 Yeah I really wanted to go to Hindmarsh stadium because it looks pretty cool on TV and it seems like you are nice and close to the action. mvfc4lifeposted at 7:15AM on 2nd Jul, 2010 So is there anyone else out there who thinks that this is a good idea and would think about attending?? Foxhawkposted at 4:03PM on 3rd Jul, 2010 Sorry lads - Just finished a contract with my last employer and looking at a career change (hoping to find an electronics apprenticeship) so unlikely to be able to travel for a while - and when I do it will be to the UK for a short trip in a few years. mvfc4lifeposted at 8:59AM on 21st Jul, 2010 Have we got any body out there that wants to go to a-league games and show our Tassie colours? I really think that this is a great idea! HandzCDFCAUFCposted at 8:46AM on 22nd Jul, 2010 I would defo wear the colours, I need a banner,What are the official Tas Utd Colours? Is there any merchandise at the moment?? |

I think that this is a great idea and I would attend when ever i can, especially the Melbourne Victory games. I also think that we should do something big to attract attention at the next pre-season game down here in TAS.
