Foxhawkposted at 3:58AM on 2nd Apr, 2010 I a currently thinking of a large oval made of chain to form the outside edge of the shield with the chain meeting at the bottom and forming a chain knot with the two ends hanging below, perhaps as manacles. Within this oval and across its widest section (the middle) are the words 'Tasmania' (top) then 'United FC' (bottom). Above the title and filling the top third is a side profile of a full rigged sailing ship - reflecting Tasmania's colonial past. In the bottom third (slightly more than a third) is a varient of the current Shield of Tasmania. The shield itself is in the shape of Tasmania, is rainforest green and has a black lined traditional footballing it (which is white to contrast with the rainforest green). This shield in the bottom third of the oval is guarded by two thylacines. Below the shield in the bottom is the club latin motto. I personally favour 'In vires. Sto. In volo Triumphus' as the club motto. (smaller font size than the title and curved, unlike the title font. I am no good at graphics programs but I am giving it a go. If anyone has suggestions on how to do graphics I could use the advice. Tazztellposted at 12:45AM on 3rd Apr, 2010 You've certainly thought long and hard about the club crest Foxhawk. I was thinking, maybe a Tasmanian Tiger running from a burning forest (in the background ) would make a good badge. How Tasmanian is that ?!? Foxhawkposted at 5:05PM on 3rd Apr, 2010 Or a picture of a tasmanian saying "were small". That would be very Tasmania. As sad as it is to say, lots of places in the world with lower populations, or smaller land area achieve bigger things because their populations have a "we can do" attitude. Just heard Gold Coast is going for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Since we are not allowed to compete I would imagine that would set Hobart back another twelve years. I wonder if we can host one this century?
galacticaposted at 8:41AM on 5th Apr, 2010 Well we can but it won't be until after there is a change of latent personnel in the town hall. Currently the focus is upon slowing everything down supposedly so we will all dawdle around smiling cheesily at each other and whistling dixie. They feel that once that is achieved we can become motivated to hold many a festivity based upon nonsense and sponsored by no one. |

In terms of settlement Hobart is almost as old as Sydney, and even Launceston is older than Melbourne. So perhaps marry the whole 'older colony' theme in there somewhere.
I like the idea of including chains, an old ship while keeping the distinctive football theme perhaps by having the crest round.
Still like the Tasmanian Tiger/Thylacine/Wolf as a mascot. However a crest must be kept balanced. I will post my idea as soon as I am done.
