It is rather disturbing to read about the apparent in fighting going on at FFT. I would presume that a strong and healthy FFT is going to be part of the equation to help the TUFC create a successful on going club once admitted. It may not be essential to the initial setup but it will be important for a number of officials and administrative staff to either come on board or be ditched for the good of football advancement within Tasmania. How say you all? Add comments |

galacticaposted at 10:37AM on 25th Mar, 2010 I wouldnt guess on "the government doing anything to keep the FFT under control". I think that they would not interfere as such because there may well be a perception of, whoever makes the grade does so, when comparing soccer and oz rules. It is up to soccer to prove it has the structures to be effective as a local backup to national participation, in the same way that AFL Tasmania will have to, if and when an opportunity arises. I would guess though, on the continued wish list from 'celebrity' types who think Tassie can support an AFL team. My suggestion is that the TUFC bid if realised, should in all likelihood occur before any AFL franchise and therefore, could be a very good test case scenario for AFL Tasmania to learn from. Hopefully we are well set up to handle the impacting competition when and if it comes. I say when and if because there has not been proof as yet, that a state based side is a better scenario for us in the AFL, than a more inclusive sequence of games from an adoptive club. |

Believe me - if this was the only stumbling block between the state getting and not getting a side it would be made known to the government.
A few phone calls would either bring swift changes, or if not, would result in action from the government resulting in a new FFT leadership.
My guess is that the governmetn will have more to do with the FFT anyway in the future and will place strings on the cash they pass over. Some hefty KPI's will keep the FFT under control.
