Wentworth Park. I had a look at in google maps and compared it to a number of grounds in the UK. The land area easily fits a number of famous stadiums in the UK and even has room for parking. Down the track maybe five - ten years after the club starts running I wonder if it could be a good spot for a 15k stadium development. A-League in the Summer, shared rugby/southern or statewide premier league in the Winter. Would be interested to hear the opinion of some Hobart people, particularly from all southern regions, both north of Hobart, Easterly and South.

I agree it would be a great idea. Tasmania really needs soccer stadiums and so do all the other states, especially for the a-league. The new stadium in Melbourne is great and it would be so good if nearly all the a-league teams could play in such great stadiums week in week out. In stadiums such as Aurora Stadium, in Launceston, the atmosphere gets lost with all the open space, watching soccer at and AFL ground is just not the same as watching it at a purpose built stadium.

I think your suggestion is full of merit. The only proviso I have is that the metro councils develop an integrated public transport system that will allow people to get to and from the area promptly with the least amount of traffic jam effects. A stadium situated at Wentworth Park would dovetail nicely into a developed sports precinct that has begun to take shape to a certain degree along Clarence Street/Rokeby Road. Without a doubt your suggestion offers far greater possibility than what is being served up from the HCC at present with their bicycle mentality. I am not against bikes per se but they are not totally suited to Hobart’s terrain and definitely will not move people en masse or quickly. Furthermore not that I am expecting such to occur here, for anyone who has witnessed a bicycle traffic jam you would never leave your car again.

Also as we all probably concur, there is a need for a specific soccer and rugby stadium in Hobart rather than using AFL grounds. Such a move is acceptable in Melbourne due to the massive crowd numbers that require seating in any international and World Cup scenario. So whilst the short term benefit here might be cost effective to share we need to utilise a specific size ground that will give atmosphere and create supporter continuity in the longer term. We can build in stages and increase further the capacity later for full internationals.

The idea of having stadiums for soccer and rugby is great. If the both federations put there money together we could have a purpose built soccer and rugby stadium in the future, and even a Tasmanian team in the A-League and NRL. But we really need more money and more people!

Call me biased as a western shore person but I think it would needs to be more central - between New Town and the city somewhere!  (Rugby Park, Domain, North Hobart Oval or Sullivans Cove)

I guess it all depends on what the state is willing to spend. Wentworth, Rugby Park, North Hobart are all easily big enough for a stadium although each has its respective pros and cons. Other ideas I like include purpose built stadia in the Domain built or near the city centre behind the docks where the hospital was to be relocated.

The good thing with these options is that ALL have been done before and numerous examples exist. If need be the government could have a stadia built into the edge of the domain. My own club in England is built into a hill. There is even a stadia in Germany that sits in an old quary. The sides have seating while the ends are sheer rock walls.
