Anyone have any ideas regarding what it will be about?

Given the is now mentioning Tasmania over South Coast as a future expansion site I am wondering if we are going to be announced as the preferred 14th club following the addition of Canberra (which is a practically guaranteed as 13th now).

It is all about timing. The govts in our state are minnows when it comes to getting momentum on anything. They wait and wait and wait until someone else decides it for them. That way they can be seen in the best light as presenting something that is for the good for the state and wanted in a region where they will project the funding. It is their way of seeming to combat parochialism. Also if those who expect to be presented with govt support for development and projects do not see this materialise then they go elsewhere and govts can say we were in negotiations; we tried but were not able to satisfy all criteria. In much the same way as we can capitalise on the world cup saga developing as a row between FFA, AFL and NRL by providing alternative, creative and lateral solutions to assist then the same should happen with our A League presentation. A suggestion for Lisa Singh and the new Tassie flag emblem - a snail.

It seems like TC are going in hard now for soccer, rugby and AFL which may work for them however spectators will want more facilities. For example the grass hill would have to go to fit more than 16,500 in unless the western stands are revamped into two tiers to suit AFL requirements. Also we would have to say that unless a drop in wicket square is created then A League at BO would surely be regarded as an interim measure in a spectators mind because soccer relies on atmosphere creation at elite levels and that cannot happen totally with one side of the ground without spectators. I am referring to the probability of positioning a soccer pitch in front of the southern stand at BO. I wait with bated breath for hopefully exciting big news before Christmas from TUFC.

If you waited with baited breath you might catch a fish while you are filling in time.

I see Slavich is threatening to give the fans their $200 back and abandon the Canberra bid.

Looks like the "pre-Christmas announcement" part of the message has now been removed! :-/

I am not sure about anyone else but I am getting fed up with all the "ANNOUNCEMENTS SHORTLY" only to see many weeks later that nothing eventuates. We have been told that:

News to be released by Xmas - now it's after Xmas. Merchandise to support our bid was SUPPOSED to be coming - maybe it will be available when the WC is played in Oz in 2022. We have been waiting two (2) years for this, still nothing. Media releases are as rare as a Man City win. TUFC stated that they would be attempting to get school kids on board by asking them to design our new kit and logo - nothing. Not one single promotion or Gala Day to see just how much support is out there for our bid.

How can any media organisation (Mercury, Win News, Examiner) take our bid seriously when there is nothing to report. This has been the same for the past two years, there is just not enough news, especially on OUR website. The forums are all about the WC bid or a stadium for Tassie, how the hell can we justify a purpose built Football stadium WHEN WE DO NOT HAVE A FOOTBALL TEAM, no Govt is going to allocate the money neccesary for a stadium without a team to use it regularly.

Maybe be an appropriate name for our team is the Tassie Mushrooms, "Keep them in the dark and feed them Bulls..t. Come on TUFC give us some Xmas cheer.

HO HO HO !

Good to see you are into the season of good will and friendship TC_CVale ?!

I'm disapointed too about the lack of news, but at least while delayed it maybe an indication that something is going on somewhere. The much promised news is said to be " positive ". Whilst the taskforce was created two years ago and this forum active since November 2008 what positive contribution have you made TC_CVale ? And how much of your time and money have you donated to TUFC's continuing efforts ? Come on cobber fare suck of the sauce bottle all the TUFC people are volunteers. Doubtless you like me didn't go and meet the taskforce members either prior the game in Launceston or at the special showing of "Looking for Eric" in Hobart. My excuse ? I work off shore, what's your's TC_CVale ?

Enough !! I'm begining to sound like a grumpy old man ! TUFC please resolve to keep us better informed in 2010, thanks.

Seasons greetings to you all from somewhere much colder than Tassie at this time of year !

Calm down TC mate.

Things are still primordial and these things will happen. As they said, it's beyond their control.

I agree completely about the work the taskforce is doing to get an A leauge team in Tassie, they are doing the best that they can, with very limited resourses. My worry is that with very little info released it is very hard to get the media to take any notice of our bid or the A League in general. To be honest I am hoping that the delay is due to TUFC being in talks with Wellington Phoenix, them relocating here would save TUFC a lot of money, especially with all the back room stuff that goes with being in the A League.

To answer a couple of your questions, I have been to both A League pre season matches in Lton, did not meet the taskforce tho, I don't like French Footballers (they spit, bite, kick & scratch) so no didnt go and see the Eric Cantona flick. I have suggested to the taskforce that they have a Gala Day at Nth Hobart & Aurora, this is not feasable (in General Discussion) tho, asked if a competition could be held involving school kids to help lift the profile, suggested that in may be possible to get Gold Coast to play a "Home Game" in Tassie, like they do in the AFL, along with numerous letters to the Mercury and pollies.

Sorry if it seemed I was having a go at TUFC, I did not mean it to come across that way, the taskforce is doing all it can, lets hope 2010 brings us closer to our dream.

Thanks for your reply TC.

I  should point out, not necessarily in defence of French football (you've got hand it to them - FIFA did ! don't we all have Irish ancestors ?) that the Ken Loach directed movie "Looking for Eric" just used the association with Cantona as a vehicle for the story.Although perhaps "Looking for Hapiytee" or "Looking for Cazalea" doesn't quite ring true ?!  And the event was intended as a fund raiser for the club.

Anyway here's to a better informed 2010 - Happy New Year.

I couldnt agree more fellas. I do think that TUFC is being pressured by the "Minnie the mouse" tourism spokesperson to hold and delay until they can get a clear policy up and going before the upcoming election. There is a bit of argy bargy going on now with Launceston City Council/Aurora Stadium, AFL Tasmania, Cricket Tasmania/Clarence City Council/Bellerive Oval and the Hobart City Council. They all want a piece of the pie and yet there is no definitive master plan for our state to proceed forward and develop major sports on behalf of the majority of citizens who want it. Someone needs to call a spade a spade, recognise what it is and start putting it into the ground. Anyway even if there is a delay to develop infrastructure there should not necessarily be a delay to have an A League team operating. I for one am sick and tired of all the secrecy from all quarters - TUFC and Govt. I cannot understand why we cannot be presented with a Govt directive to approach the World Cup as an opportunity to present Tassie to the world and present the best of the world to Tassie. For goodness sake AFL can be accommodated at Aurora whilst it happens. We should be making it clear that we want a soccer team training at Aurora until they move down to Hobart to play their game. Seems like a win – win situation for us if Minnie could just get proactive. This is what will happen all over the country so why are the Tas Govt. simpletons dithering about it all?

Just on the Phoenix idea, if they were to move lock stock and barrel to Tassie I would support them but if it was a some games in Hobart some games in Wellington deal with no fare share of games in Launceston I could not support the team.  It wouldn't be Tasmania United and it would make a mockery of what has gone on so far.

Definitely. Most people are going to struggle to get in behind a trans Tasman consortium and I am one of them. In fact I would only follow it if it was an interim set up for say 1 or 2 yrs max until a NZ/Pacifica comp is operating. If this was the scenario then maybe games might be Hobart 4 Launceston 3 Wellington 7 graduating to H 7 L 7 with proviso being review acording to market and growth factors on an annual basis.

Obviously this is all supposition and could easily be any configuration but certainly it would want to be a temporary arrangement for a very minimum time until we are up and running on an individual basis with our own namw, logo, etc. Very interesting to watch the manouverings on the southern ozzie rules grounds setups as they are unfolding - may well be a strategy reassessment taking place by the HCC regarding NHO future developments. Certainly if they embrace the world game the possibilities are currently immense for not only Hobart but the whole state.

I am sure TUFC are aware that AFL Tasmania have signed an agreement with the Glenorchy FC to relocate their offices and finals games to King George 5 Oval from next year. This means that Nth Hobart Oval would be available from late August until March. The fact that the offices used by AFL Tas will now be vacant and with no tenants for the ground over the summer, this is a great oppourtunity for TUFC to approach Nth Hobart FC & the HCC with a proposal for using this ground, not just as a venue, but as a home for TUFC offices.

The HCC are losing sporting events at an alarming rate & now that AFL is moving on, maybe, just maybe the HCC will see that it has to either spend money on upgrading the venue or end up with very little top level sport played in the capital city. We have a state election in three (3) months, this is the time to put pressure on local pollies to help out our cause. We should also be pushing the fact that it is not only an A League team that comes with this licence, but more importantly that we have to field a Womens and Youth League teams as well. This would hopefully mean NHO being used most weekends from August till March.

If TUFC do move on this then they need to print off the ACL stadium requirements and ensure that any promises about the stadium include upgrade to ACL standard which includes 1200 Lux flood lighting and all seater stadium (min 3,000 seats) media room, press room, media tribune, TV broadcast positions (5), covered team benches to seat 20 each, on site coach and car parking for teams and all officials etc etc etc. and of course a level playing field (ie no slope at all) and drainage to the standard that play is not prevented or stopped due to pitch flooding.

Yes that would of course be a pre-requisite expected from the HCC for NHO to be used for A League. These types of facilities are what would be expected as a norm and I do not think they are beyond the arrangements that can take place. These lights are part of the NHFC proposals currently and they probably would need to continue using the ground for a number of years to make the capital investment return feasible and justified. However after such a period I would envisage NHFC move either to KGV Oval or onto the Domain Heritage Oval and join their cricket club. It would be in the best interests of all concerned for this to occur and for the HFC to move to the new Kingston twin ovals complex on completion. Furthermore (1) there is sufficient room at the NHO to currently satisfy coaching requirements and (2) I believe all other minimum standards can be met. If reference is made to the TUFC business plan proposal we can see that the NHO does not fall far short in most matters - in fact as a preference for spectator viewing I believe it has always exceeded both YP and BO. When the NHO is eventually redeveloped to a rectangular stadium there will be ample room to incorporate many other facilities to World Cup standard. Also when this does occur it would be prudent to dismantle the current Ryde Street heritage stand and relocate it at the Domain Heritage Oval to compliment that ground as a suburban footy/cricket cricket ground.
