stoogestposted at 10:23AM on 30th Jul, 2009 There was! And you got your mug on TV, together with the placards! Chuqposted at 10:35AM on 30th Jul, 2009 Gees again! I keep missing it :( PS how do you know it was *my* mug? :P stoogestposted at 11:00AM on 31st Jul, 2009 heh heh...cos I'm your local workplace stalker! tufcposted at 11:08AM on 30th Jul, 2009 The news story featured an interview with John McGirr following yesterday's meeting with the FFA. John didn't give away many details, but said that the meeting was "very positive". John made the comparison with Townsville's bid, and noted that the demographics were very similar, and he suggested that if Townsville can have a team, so could Tasmania. The business case was also mentioned. John pointed out that it would cost $100,000 and that the Task Force would have to believe that the bid had a good chance of succeeding before such a substantial sum of money would be spent. The reporter mentioned that the FFA preferred a "consortium" type ownership model, as opposed to a single owner (e.g. "The Sheik"). He also pointed out that the FFA would look more favourably on bids that had state government backing. Highlights of the Victory v Adelaide game were also shown (including a shot of some deranged fans holding up "Support the Bid" placards!!!). Late news on WIN tonight at 11:45pm - I'll record it in case they run the story again... Chuqposted at 1:33AM on 31st Jul, 2009 Sounds good, nothing new but keeping awareness up! I notice there was about 2 paragraphs about it in the Examiner this morning. Nothing in the Merc, of course. There was nothing on ABC News, and I think I slept through the WIN late news :P Oh and out of interest, there was nothing on Thursday Night Live on One HD about it, not that you would expect it, but being the first day broadcasting to Tassie you never know!
galacticaposted at 11:53AM on 31st Jul, 2009 I don't think we are going to get much change from the Muckery/Mockery until the bid succeeds because they have put all their apples into the AFL bid team. Floggers think that Tasmanians will stand by and pump $35 million a year into such a side when all the big sponsors pull out if we don't have success or promote our brand. They must think we all live in a big pokie machine or something. I think John McGirr did state that in regards to the bid the consortium will be having further discussions with Launceston, Clarence and Hobart Councils rather than necessarily other governments. This sounds to me like they would like to get these three entities to invest in the business case with business partners rather than the state government and then of course being dictated to on the club's management decisions. Governments always demand obligations to satisfy parochial electorates as we know whereas the councils have the opportunity to develop and promote their own infrastructure even though funding for such does come from state and federal government sources also. |
