I think it's great that Motors has lent it's support, well done to them. I believe either Cascade or Boags should be targeted for major sponsorship. Both brands are proudly Tasmanian, sold Australia wide, with the rights offered to have the product exclusively stocked and marketed at the games, not to mention the potential to have the brand recognised in the budding Asian beer market.

Good idea re Boags and Cascade. Possibly boags could sponsor Launceston games and Cascade Hobart? That way you get both of them. I also feel this should be heavily promoted among the Northern and Southern Junior Associations...as the kids will have a real connection with the game to see it played locally at the hightest level, and have a local team to get behind. I know my junior team loved playing a demo game at half time when Melbourne played Adelaide at Aurora preseason...that involvement needs to be encouraged. And when the kids are into it, so are their families - my 6 players accounted for 30+ seats at that match!

I also think, and this is for further down the track, we need to see locals in the team. Any NYL team should be made up entirely local kids and we should aim to get as many locals in the team as is competitively possible. Tasmanians are parochial and will get behind a team if they're built from the grassroots up.

In your goals you talk about vontary workers. How about you start a web poll or list asking how many people would be willing to sign on as a volunteer. Wouldn't that give you a little more ammunition when going to FFA.

Certainly a good idea.

Just back from the UK and all the clubs I visited had extensive volunteer groups.

agree with what was said about taswegians being very parochial - my wife is tassie, and my dad spent time in queenstown, so therefore i've always had a soft spot for tassie, even though i'm such a vic :) so perhaps some option could be setup for taswegians who aren't living in tassie? eg an "away membership" or something, to get them to come to tas united away matches?

oh, another thing, travel-focused: go for an airline or travel partner to sponsor, then deals might be easier to work out for travelling supporters (even interstate fans going "home" for a home game :)

With A League games being watched all over Australia & Asia, companies like Betfair or even the fish processers Tassal could be interested. Gunns (dont start) may have an interest with its timber products or wines. What is important is getting the Mercury on side, surely they can see that this has a great chance of becoming reality. Incat is another that could benefit from the exposure in Asia.

Maybe the Tasmanian goverment could put up some cash to sponsor an A-League team in the state, albeit somewhat less than the $16million it gave to the non-Tassie hawks 3 years ago.It would also bring some positive coverage for the labor premier instead of his goverment having to pay out money to unpopular ex-Governors,incompetant ministers, and their ilk.Additionally, maybe Tiger Airlines could decorate one of their aircraft with a Tasmanian tiger to transport a future tasmanian team to its away games ? Every bit helps !

Can't forget that "We win!" headline. What about the supporters who don't support them. Do they get a "You lose!" issue.

But anyway, back to our code - As much as possible should be Tasmanian in terms of produce at the games and even in finding advertising design companies.

However it would be silly to turn our noses up to outside financial support if it was offered.

regarding boags/cascade

there is not a chance that you could get cascade to do hobart games and boags to do laun.... just not a chance!!

cascade is owned by the fosters group (which includes carlton draught, cougar etc...) and cascade premium light is the mainstream light beer used by this company australia wide (on tap in all pubs that use carlton/fosters)

boags is now owned by an asian company - so could potentially do with the assistance of some exposure to the asian market via the a league.

either way - these optons would have to be looked at with the FFA closely as im not sure if they already have an alcohol partner or agreement - they wouldnt let us sell boags products at our games if they have a deal with others to sell products (which is often the case - eg both Cricket aus and AFL both soley sell carlton products no matter where they play - exceptio being XXXX instead of carlton mid in queensland)

With the amount of conjecture about club colours and a nickname for Tasmania United, why not run a competition with school kids to design a shirt that can be sold while we wait to get our licence and authourised A League merchandise. You could stipulate a certain criteria for the design and have one competition for Primary Schools and one for High Schools. These shirts could be the sold to people who wish to show their support for TUFC. They could be marketed as "Supporting Tasmania United's A League Bid". This would get the word out about our bid, and I think this would probably raise a good few dollars for the taskforce.

The taskforce is working for something along these lines right now. More info when we have it.

Any chance of another Q&A article from someone else on the administration side of things?

Oh, and are you able to confirm is Mr Afshin Ghotbi is a potential club manager?

Cheers

When visiting our migrant communities, I find very few have any idea that we are bidding for an A league licence, whether it is the Italian, Croation, Polish, Greek, German clubs. These are the most passionate supporters of our great game, can we get some info out to these groups. The possiblities for increasing our supporter base is huge. These ethnic clubs could be asked to cater with tradional food for home games, use a rotating system so that all get to have at least one game. Go one step further and have an Asian Cup of Food, or a World Cup of Food, getting everyone on board on the same day.

Imagine playing Melbourne Victory at Nth Hobart with the Italian community catering as well as the normal canteens. Think of the potential with Melb's Italian community & Victory's great travelling fan base, this could be a massive event, the Journo's would be fighting to get down here and with the Nth Hobart already to food centre of Hobart, they may join in as well. Let's just keep them informed.

Tasmania United claims to be for everyone so . . . .

Whilst grabbing a quick bite at 'the China diner' in Moonah (no this is not a commercial - tho' the $ 13 all u can eat

deal is good value) i got speaking to 3 guys from Africa, all football fans, asked them if they'd support a Tassi based

A-League team all said they would but claim no knowledge of TUFC. Guess it's up to us (the supporters) to get the

word out and then that has to be reinforced by the club once secure funding is found. Spread the word people-

please! !
